Golden Nugget Hotel

Golden Nugget HotelThe Golden Nugget hotel in downtown Las Vegas has always been a flagship Vegas hotel -- recent renovations have added a level of comfort and beauty that makes this one of the top downtown hotels in Vegas. Like many of the older hotels and casinos in Vegas, the renovations tried to blend old school and new Vegas, making the hotel new enough to attract customers, but still a little bit gritty and rustic. Maybe you've peeked in at the world's largest gold nugget (weighing over six pounds) but never considered a stay here -- after the renovations and with great cheap room deals year-round, maybe it is time you give the Nugget a chance.

Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino

The Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino opened way back in 1946 -- it was the first purpose-built casino gaming building in Las Vegas. The Golden Nugget was Steve Wynn's first big project in Vegas almost forty years ago -- Wynn is the man responsible for the "new" Vegas, so staying at the Golden Nugget is like staying in a Vegas history lesson. One thing you'll notice right off the bat about the Golden Nugget is the light. There's plenty of natural lighting, and in a town like Vegas known for its lack of windows and its numbing artificial lights, natural light is a big deal.

The beautiful rooms in the North Tower are a little bigger than the rooms in in the South Tower. Remember that when booking -- also remember to ask for an upgrade toa suite at check-in. I've had great success simply asking for a better room and getting it at almost no additional charge. Travelling with kids? The Golden Nugget's pool and the overall "family friendliness" of the hotel and casino make this the downtown spot for Vegas travellers with families -- you don't have to go anywhere near the casino to get to your rooms, and your family can enjoy all the non-gaming action that Vegas has to offer without you having to stay far away from the gaming action.

Cheap Deals at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino

The Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino has really great seasonal deals, especially "off season" (whatever that means in Vegas) and in the Spring. Right now, you can get rooms for as low as $35 per night Sunday through Thursday right up until mid-summer. If you want to stay in a fancy room, you can upgrade to either of their fancy "Towers" (Gold Tower or Rush Tower) for $10-$30 more per night, depending on your visit, length of stay, and the room your choose.

You can find great deals at the Golden Nugget by booking through any number of Vegas-themed websites, including a special 35% off any stay two nights or longer during the summer. I was able to find two great discount deals just Googling the name of the hotel and the phrase "cheap rooms". If you book through Vegas.com you can enjoy a free room upgrade or get 40% off on your next visit of two nights or more.

Want to stay off the strip but not too far away? Looking for a taste of old Vegas with a few modern conveniences? Check out the Golden Nugget Hotel for your next gaming trip.
